iPhone 5 vs Lumia 920: Why Pick Nokia?

By  |

Nokia are counting on the Lumia 920 a lot as they are hoping that it will bring their sales back up, which have declined. Microsoft on the other hand is hoping that their big break will come with Windows Phone 8. Both therefore have a lot riding on the Lumia 920 and are hoping that it will be a breakthrough like the original iPhone was. However how does it compare to the actual iPhone 5? Let’s take a look.

iPhone 5 vs Nokia Lumia 920

The Nokia Lumia 920 has a display of 4.5 inches with 332ppi and a resolution of 1280 x 768. The Apple iPhone 5 comes with the display of 4 inches and it has a resolution of 1136 x 640 and 326ppi. The Nokia Lumia 920 is the winner as it has the largest display and comes with more ppi, it can also be used with gloves.

The back camera of the Nokia Lumia 920 is 8.7 megapixel and there is a camera of 1.3 megapixel on the front. The camera features autofocus and dual LED flash, the device has Carl Zeiss optics along with Pureview. The Apple iPhone 5 has a back camera of 8 megapixels and the camera is 1.2 megapixel on the front. The camera features support for autofocus, LED flash, geo tagging and FaceTime, with face detection and panoramic options. The Nokia Lumia 920 is the winner over the Apple iPhone 5 for the camera, thanks to it being better in low light conditions. This is a great feat in itself as the iPhone has always been well known for its camera.

Both handsets have support for 3G, 2G, and LTE, however the LG Nexus 920 comes with support for wireless charging, NFC and a standard microUSB cable can be used for charging the device. The Apple iPhone 5 relies on the Lightning cable when it comes to charging.

The Nokia Lumia 920 comes with Windows Phone 8 and the Apple iPhone 5 offers the latest iOS 6. Apple are the winners here as their App Store is better than Android. Windows Phone 8 however looks superb and is the easiest of the operating systems to use that we’ve seen to date. Nevertheless this cannot beat the 700,000 apps that owners of the Apple iPhone 5 can access of course.

With the Nokia Lumia 920 you have the choice of many bright colours, including grey, black, white, red, black and yellow. The Apple iPhone 5 on the other hand comes in just white or black. Both handsets look superb and it is therefore just a matter of personal preference which of the devices is the more suitable for you.

The Nokia Lumia 920 is available for $99.99 for the 32GB version, with a two year contract. The Apple iPhone 5 32GB version is $299. The Nokia Lumia 920 happens to be the winner thanks to its lower price.

While the Nokia Lumia 920 has many advantages over the Apple iPhone 5, if you want the device in the US then you would have no option but to get it on AT&T. The Apple iPhone 5 is with all major carriers in the US, except for T-Mobile.

The reputation of the Apple iPhone 5 is hard to beat of course. However the Nokia Lumia 920 is a great Windows Phone 8 device and it should prove to be very popular. You also have to consider that when Apple revealed the iPhone in 2007 it was only with AT&T and had just a handful of apps. But its camera, excellent touchscreen technology and easy to use OS is why the Apple iPhone 5 is as popular as it is today. Therefore Nokia and its Lumia 920 is certainly on the right track.
