iPhone 5 vs New LG Nexus 4: Game On!

By  |

LG will be releasing the next new Nexus device, which for the time being has the name of the LG Nexus 4. It will compete with a lot of great devices that are already on the market, including the new iPhone 5 from Apple. So just how does the LG Nexus 4 compare against the iPhone 5? Let’s take a look at both their specs, keeping in mind that those of the Nexus device are still unofficial.

iPhone 5 vs LG Nexus 4 (comparison)

The iPhone 5 is already out, while the new Nexus is thought to be coming out on 29th October at All Things D, Dive into Mobile event.

The screen of the iPhone 5 is the famous retina display which has now been boosted to 4 inches with a resolution of 1136 x 640. The ratio is 16:9, which means that watching movies is better than ever.

The LG Nexus 4 is thought to have a display of 4.7 inches with 1280 x 768 resolution HD. There are rumours of it being 320ppi, if so then it would match up to the retina display seen on the iPhone 5. It may also have the 16:9 aspect ratio for watching widescreen content. If you want something with a larger display then the Nexus could be the device for you, otherwise the iPhone 5 fits into the pocket better.

The iPhone 5 has a new look with a back that is two tone aluminium, with a band around the outer edge for holding. The phone is lighter along with being slimmer and it weighs just 112 grams, as opposed to the iPhone 4S at 140 grams. Some have said that the handset feels too light. The iPhone 5 is 7.6mm.

The Google Nexus 4 may not be able to compete with the iPhone 5 when it comes to design. It looks very similar to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus handset. The shell of the device has rounded edges and is black. It is thought that the handset will be designed in plastic. If this is so then it will not compare with the top quality looks of the iPhone 5.

The processor on the iPhone 5 is the A6 dual core of Apple’s along with 1GB of RAM. The iPhone comes in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB versions and has an 8 megapixel camera on the back and a front camera of 1.2 megapixels. This is capable of taking 720p HD photos and video.

The LG Nexus 4 will have the quad core ARMv7 1.5GHz processor with 2GB of RAM. It is thought to have just 8GB of storage and there is no option for an SD card. The camera on the back is 8 megapixels and there is also a camera on the front of the device.

The iPhone 5 comes with the latest iOS6, which according to Apple, has more than 200 new features. However one let down has been Apple Maps, which took place of Google Maps. Siri has been improved along with integration of Facebook and FaceTime is now over cellular. Owners of the iPhone don’t have to worry about future updates.

The Nexus is thought to come with Jelly Bean, Android 4.1, which is the latest Google Android OS. Updates should be faster than with other Android phones, as the device has the Nexus name. The Nexus 4 will have an unlocked bootloader so that owners can install custom ROMs. Therefore it provides better customisation than the iPhone 5 in many levels.

The iPhone 5 is on most of the major carriers in the US, apart from T-Mobile and it runs on the 4G LTE network. It is thought that the Nexus will support the 4G LTE networks of Sprint and Verizon. GSM versions will likely rely on HSPA+

The iPhone 5 starts at $199.99 with contract for the 16GB version while the 32GB will cost you $299.99. The 64GB version is $399.99 on contract. At the moment there is no word on the price of the Google Nexus 4, however it should be lower than the iPhone 5.

Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii, PC, iPhone and Android games keep Berke busy at work all day. Honestly though we’re not sure why we’re paying him as it should be the other way around.
