Blackberry have made an attempt at getting back into play with the big boys of the world of smartphone when they revealed their touchscreen Z10 device.
iPhone 5 vs BlackBerry Z10 vs Samsung Galaxy S3
So the question now is whether the BlackBerry Z10 can play with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Apple iPhone 5. It seems that it might be able to as Blackberry have packed the device with some superb hardware. It comes with a dual core 1.5GHz processor, 2GB of RAM and a display that is larger than the newest version of the Apple iPhone. Plus the reception and call quality is excellent.
What will determine the failure or success of the new handset is how well the software performs, along with the OS, which has been redesigned. iOS and Android have firm foundations and these have been built on for around 5 or 6 years. Blackberry on the other hand has had to start from the bottom. The reviews of the functions of the handset have been somewhat mixed. Of course comparisons have been between the first generation software to some veteran products that have been on the market for quite some time. The camera, browser and keyboard of the Blackberry Z10 are all new, along with this is the fact that the layout and the system operation have been fabricated from the start, and it has been rolled out for the first time.
Some have said that the keyboard should have the title of the best typing experience on any device. However, some red flags have also been seen, namely in the form of the browser and the photo quality from the camera when compared to the iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S3.
Another issue has been with apps and it’s not just about lack of quantity. RIM, or Blackberry as they now want to be known, have got around 70,000 apps at launch, however this remains way behind the 800.000 of Apple or the 700,000 of Android. Apps are not as refined as they are on other platforms; this is down to first gen issues.
The Black berry Z10 will be on all carriers in the US and below you can see the specs compared with two of the best-selling devices that the Blackberry Z10 will have to compete with – the iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S3.
