The Apple iPhone 5 has a lot to live up thanks to all the hype that has been surrounding its launch. But will it really be all that or will it be a let-down for some and could we see rivals taking over?
iPhone 5: Can Apple match the hype?
Nokia have released the Lumia 920 with Windows Phone 8 and it has some very innovative features and specs. The design is colorful in a unibody and it feels great in the hands. Apple are said to have changed the design of the new iPhone 5 and we are expecting a look that is similar to glass. The next generation iPhone could also be a lot thinner at 7.6mm and it should feature in-cell technology. The tension for Apple however is bound to be mounting the closer they get to the release of the handset when they will find out if any of the changes upset the apple cart and put fans off. One of these changes is the screen ratio which is said to have changed to 16:9 and will now be 4 inches. The display will be longer than on previous models but the same width and this may not please Apple fans when you consider backwards compatibility of existing apps that were developed in the past 6 years that the iPhone has been around.
Apple could buckle under thanks to an increase in Android smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Note 2 as there have been rumours of people moving away from iOS onto the Android platform at a growing rate (on last check, 1,3 million Android devices are activated daily).
When the new iPhone 5 is revealed it will also put pressure on rivals as analysts have said that Apple will continue to rule over the holiday period. The Windows Phones have received a lot of positivity and phone makers now want to diversify and this is good news.
The iPhone 5 has been rumored to have support for LTE and it should come with iOS 6 which offers around 200 new features. It is thought that the handset will have 1GB of RAM, run on the A6 quad core processor, have storage of up to 64GB, NFC support and an 8 megapixel camera. The battery may be larger at around 1440mAh and Apple will have changed the dock connector to a new 9 pin. If these rumors serve true, there is nothing innovative here as there are handsets out on the market that can match this already. However compared to the 4S, it is an improvement.
For now we have to wait another 24 hours to see if any of the iPhone 5 specs and rumours are true and only time will tell if Apple have been able to offer something unique and innovative in their next generation handset for fans.
