The speeds of the iPhone 5 data wise beats the 3G speeds that owners of the iPhone 4S get, but how do they compare with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S3 and its 4G LTE radios, which is the biggest rival to the iPhone 5? This was the question CNET asked and the results may surprise you.
iPhone 5 & Samsung Galaxy S3 4G LTE speed test
The iPhone 5 has a display which is larger than its predecessor and it supports 4G LTE speeds. These are the two greatest improvements over the 4S. In fact, CNET even found that using the iPhone 5 with its 4G connection produced faster speeds then when using the handset on Wi-Fi.
So CNET put these to the test by using the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the iPhone 5 but also throwing in the 4S for good measure. Tests were undertaken is the same location and using Ooklas SpeedTest.net and each device pinging the same service in the region of San Francisco. Both LTE devices were tested on the Verizon LTE network.
CNET said that their tests showed that the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the iPhone 5 both beat the speeds of the iPhone 4S by a long margin. When it came to downloading, the iPhone 5 was slightly faster than the Samsung Galaxy S3 but nothing stellar. However the upload speeds put the S3 ahead, and by ahead we mean way ahead (results chart at bottom).
Now this would of course depend on the region you live in and the networks strength. You could also see a difference between carriers and therefore may not get the exact same results as CNET.
