The much rumored about iPhone 5 has a lot of interesting potential features to improve its display and touchscreen. This is due to a report from a Topeka Capital Markets analyst, Brian White, who said that a drop in sales by Apple’s screen supplier Wintek indicates Apple may be going elsewhere. White believes that Apple may be moving onto such touch sensing technology as in-cell.
iPhone 5 to slim down some more with ultra-thin display (rumor)
This also supports the other rumors about the iPhone 5 screen, such as the fact the screen will be larger than previous models at 4 inches. It is also expected to have 4G LTE connectivity, a faster processor and a smaller dock. It will purportedly be a longer and more slender device too, which is allowed for by in-cell touch technology and again supports the prediction by White.
A report from tech blog Blorge adds that there is also talk of an iPad Mini which is to be a 7.85 inch device to emulate the iPad and should sell for around $250. It will possess an IGZO screen (known to be thinner than the usual iPad screens). The website also reports that according to Ming-Chi Kuo (Analyst for KGI Securities) the screen could be 0.5mm thinner. He says that if in addition to this, the battery is thinner, hence the device as a whole could be up to 1.5mm thinner.
