Within hours of the iPhone 5 being released it has been jailbroken reports TheNextWeb. Hacker and iOS developer Grant Paul posted on Twitter showing the iPhone 5 running the Cydia Store, which is available on devices that have been jailbroken. Of course there is a possibility that the icon could have been faked, however the developer has stood by his claim.
iPhone 5 jailbroken already
Another iOS hacker, Stefan Esser said that he too had jailbroken the latest Apple iPhone 5. Grant also posted more photos of the jailbroken iPhone 5 after there was doubt.
It was only on Wednesday this week when iOS 6 came out and by Thursday, Redmond Pie said that they had seen a tethered jailbreak for the A4 version of the iPhone 4S, along with the 4th gen iPod Touch and the iPhone 3GS. The 5th generation iPod Touch, iPhone 4S and the iPad 2 however are not supported.
The tethered jailbreak also means that you have to boot into the tethered mode each time you want to reboot your handset.
The news that the iPhone 5 has been jailbroken so quickly after its release is a surprise. A jailbroken device means that the user can install apps that Apple does not have in their App Store. The tools needed to jailbreak the iPhone 5 will not be available for some time yet, however it is a sign that the software will be available very soon.
