iPhone 5 iOS 6 Untethered Jailbreak Works, Your Move Apple!

Well-known hacker @Planetbeing has found a new way to jailbreak the iOS 6 of Apple, which means that owners can install apps that have not been passed by Apple. However the downside is that he doesn’t plan on releasing it just yet.

iPhone 5 iOS 6 untethered jailbreak already found

On Reddit, David Wang a.k.a  @Planetbeing said that he had found flaws in iOS 6 which could jailbreak the device and this would allow users to install apps outside of the Apple Store.

Wang, who is better known as @Planetbeing on Twitter, said that the jailbreak will not be released yet. Apple will no doubt move quickly to repair any flaws and he says that if he reveals the flaws it could stop him from being able to get into the firmware of the handset in the future. He however confirmed that he has the iOS 6 untethered jailbreak running on his iPhone 5 at the moment.

The exploit could be burned if the untethered jailbreak was released today. Developers want to keep the exploit for themselves so that they can look at new firmware and ensure jailbreaking is possible in the future.

Under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act, jailbreaking is legal. Apple of course doesn’t like users doing it and jailbreaking voids the warranty of the iOS device.

This iOS 6 jailbreak is untethered. There is a tethered jailbreak out for iOS 6, which relies on the exploit known as limera1n. However if the handset runs out of battery or has to be restarted, users have to jailbreak the device again.

The new jailbreak has overcome Apple’s stronger security measures in iOS 6. With each new release of the OS, it is harder to jailbreak the device. Hackers typically have to rely on being able to dig out bugs to jailbreak.

Wang has said that he found 4 flaws in the software for his iPhone 5 jailbreak; the jailbreak currently works on iOS 6.0.2. However Apple will be launching iOS 6.1 very soon and they could close the exploits found by Wang, if he were to reveal them.

So basically it is Apple’s move now. Once they release iOS 6.1, Wang will be able to release the iOS untethered jailbreak if all looks clear. So hang in there iPhone 5 users!
