We are now half way through January and at the moment there is still no news of the untethered jailbreak for the Apple iPhone 5 and iOS 6. While customers still wait for it, Apple has apparently done a superb job at keeping hackers out of the OS. However there is some good news and this comes from two of the developers in the underground community.
iPhone 5 iOS 6 untethered jailbreak progress report
At the moment we are no closer to a release of a public download for the iOS 6 untethered jailbreak, but things are improving. The wait for the release may be very frustrating for consumers, however work is still on-going and developers are trying to get the jailbreak ready for consumers.
Pod2g and PlanetBeing, who are two well-known figures in the jailbreaking world, are working together to get the release out as soon as possible. PlanetBeing sent a Tweet saying that progress has been made as they are working together.
Another Tweet from Pod2g has shown two vulnerabilities were discovered in just one day, but he said that they are missing an “initial code execution” and this stops them releasing it to the public. This is not the news that people want to hear, however it is still encouraging that developers are still working on the iPhone 5 jailbreak.
What we may be looking at is the release of another Apple iPhone this year, before the developers release the untethered jailbreak. This is something that has never happened in the past, however this time it could be a real possibility if rumors of a summer launch for the iPhone 6 and Pod2g’s 6 month window estimation for a public release of the iOS 6 jailbreak hold true.
