The State Journal has reported a new untethered jailbreak for iOS 6. Previous solutions have turned out to be scams, or just too risky to inflict upon your precious iPhone 5. SJ says that this untethered iPhone iOS 6 jailbreak is reversible, however.
iPhone 5 iOS 6 untethered jailbreak solution allegedly released, reversible too
A reversible jailbreak means that if something does go wrong and you send your phone back under warranty, you can un-jailbreak it first, so you’ll still be protected by your warranty.
SJ says that this jailbreak comes from OpenAnyPhone.com, an online service that claims to have jailbroken iOS 4 and 5 before. We can’t back this up, as we’ve never heard of it, but the journal does. This particular jailbreak works only on the iPhones 4, 4S and 5, but if you’ve got one of these, the job’s a good’un.
So, in the interests of our public, we’re going to give it a go and report back to you, so you don’t have to risk the $27.99 the untethered jailbreak costs. Smoke us a kipper – we’ll be back for breakfast!
Update: Aaaaaand….it’s a scam! We’ve told the State Journal and our credit card company so it can get us our money back. Conveniently enough, the link to OpenAnyPhone.com’s site is gone, but you’re all welcome to have a go at investigating it yourselves.
