Fans of iOS who own the iPhone 5 along with owners of other devices running iOS 6 have just one thing on their mind and that is the fact of when hackers are going to be releasing the untethered jailbreak for their device. At the moment things are not looking as good as they could be.
iPhone 5 & iOS 6 untethered jailbreak hopes growing thin
Jailbreakers have been using Twitter to talk about different aspects of jailbreaking the iPhone 5. One of these was related to the kernel exploits and P0sixninja was said to be looking into how dump the bootROM. This is something that hasn’t been done for many years thanks to Apple improving security.
If someone could do this then the untethered jailbreak could be out faster as jailbreaking would be a lot easier for devices like the iPhone 5 and even future Apple iOS products. Users on Twitter have been asking P0sixninja about progress on the untethered jailbreak, as he has been updating his Twitter account more.
It seems that things are not going very well as he said that he wasn’t focusing on userland exploits. He said that with each new day something new comes along and so he may start to work on the untethered jailbreak again. However right now he is not working on it. This was one of the most asked questions of the developer since he has been Tweeting more about being a DJ at the upcoming WWJC in 2013.
Those who want to keep up to date with the untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 5 and iOS 6 might want to check out the video that was recently posted on YouTube that showed many famous jailbreakers talking about the jailbreaking process. The video focuses on aspects of the jailbreak, showing a live stream with some of the top jailbreakers. This provides an excellent insight into just how far developers have got with the jailbreak, and this is not very far. The video includes p0d2g, Musclenerd and PlanetBeing. They all give out information about the jailbreak, which points towards it being nowhere in sight for the time being.
P0d2g did come back onto Twitter to talk mainly about the fact that he will be a DJ at WWJC, but despite this fact fans of jailbreaking have welcomed him back. Of course they would have preferred for him to talk about the jailbreak and give positive news, but this hasn’t been the case. Developers of course do have a life outside of jailbreaking and if iOS 6 is as hard to crack as developers are saying then they will be under a lot of stress and need a break.
At the moment it seems that the latest iOS is one of the hardest to break and Chronic Dev team member Joshua Hill confirmed this. He has said that Apple have put ridiculous protection into iOS 6. He also reminded people to be careful of con artists who claim to have the untethered jailbreak and who want money for it. The Chronic Dev team have also called out Dream JB as being fake. Dream JB is another jailbreaking outfit that claims to have found the iPhone 5 iOS 6 untethered jailbreak and promises to release it on December 22nd.
While you may not want to hear it, hopes for a jailbreak coming before this Christmas doesn’t look good.
