iPhone 5 & iPod touch 5g users have been waiting to get their hands on the iOS 6 jailbreak and along with this there has been interest in how to install Cydia on the devices. So what is happening on the jailbreak front? Is it coming closer or should we install the update to iOS 6.1 which Apple has just released?
iOS 6 & 6.1 untethered jailbreak (iPhone 5 & iPod touch 5G)
Developers Evad3rs are hard at work trying to find the exploits that are needed for the jailbreak and they have already made a lot of progress. For the time being though the jailbreak has been for the Apple iPhone 3GS along with the Apple iPod Touch 4G. If you own these devices then you can jailbreak them as you can use Redsn0w for iOS 6. This has to be installed on the computer and then you plug in the device and follow the instructions.
If you own the Apple iPhone 4S and you want the jailbreak then you will have to do with iOS 5 for now. If you are the owner of the Apple iPhone 5 there is no jailbreak at the moment. Absinthe came out on 2012 for the Apple iPhone 4S and there is an untethered jailbreak available for the Apple iPhone 4S, 4 and the Apple iPod Touch 4G with the older operating system. At this moment in time there is no public release of an untethered jailbreak for iOS 6 and the Apple iPhone 5 or the iPod Touch 5G.
iOS 6.1 is out now and this fixes some bugs. However it doesn’t seem to have tightened security too much as the Evad3rs still sound confident about releasing the Evasi0n iOS jailbreak this Sunday. If so, it should work for both iOS 6 and iOS 6.1 users. So if you have an iPhone 5 or iPod touch 5G, you are free to upgrade to iOS 6.1 if you wish or stay put.
