Owners of the Apple iPhone 5, along with any other iOS 6 devices have been wondering when developers will release the untethered jailbreak, however right now things are not looking good.
iPhone 5 & iOS 6 untethered jailbreak: what’s really going on
Developers have taken to Twitter to talk about how far the jailbreak has come along. They said that they are working on many different aspects of the jailbreak, one of which is the kernel exploits. P0sixninja is one of the developers working on the jailbreak and he has been looking at dumping the bootROM too. Apple has some tough security on iOS and for many years dumping the bootROM has not been possible.
Should someone find out how to do this, then the whole untethered jailbreak process will be sped up now and in the future with other updates. P0d2g is seen regularly on Twitter and fans have been asking him about the progress that has been made on the untethered jailbreak for iOS 6.
He said that at the moment his focus wasn’t on the userland exploits. However he went on to say that each new day brings challenges that are new and he could go back to working on the untethered jailbreak for the Apple iPhone 5 in the future. He has recently been Tweeting about being a DJ at the WWJC next year.
Those who want to know more about the untethered jailbreak for iOS 6 might want to check out a video that was posted to YouTube recently about the whole situation. This shows a live stream with some of the top jailbreakers and it provides an insight into where the jailbreak stands at the moment. The video shows developers such as p0d2g, MuscleNerd and PlanetBeing, all of whom talk about the jailbreak not being near.
When P0d2g did come back to Twitter talking about the WWJC, fans did welcome him back. He said that developers do have a life outside of jailbreaking and that the security surrounding iOS 6 has been causing stress and they need a break.
Up to now iOS 6 has been the hardest OS to jailbreak; this was something that was confirmed by Joshua Hill. He went on to say that Apple had put the best protection into iOS 6. Hill also warned people about con artists. There have been websites popping up which claim to have the untethered jailbreak for the Apple iPhone 5 and iOS 6, however these are just scams.
So it looks like the whole hunt for the iPhone 5 & iOS 6 untethered jailbreak solution isn’t going as well as hoped. We’re not expecting it to happen this year or even January based on the current progress. So if you’re contemplating moving up to iOS 6.0.2 or not, go ahead for now.
