Fans waiting for the untethered jailbreak for iOS 6 and the iPhone 5 had their hopes raised and then dashed on Twitter when a well-known hacker posted a comment on Twitter. The comment led some people to believe that the jailbreak was here. Many people fell for it despite the media saying it was hard to believe that it would come about so abruptly after so many failed attempts.
iPhone 5 iOS 6 untethered jailbreak was too good to be true
@p0sixninja was inundated with replies from people who thought that he had managed to deliver the jailbreak for the iPhone 5 and iOS 6. Hackers generally use numbers and the word “rain” when announcing tools for jailbreaking. However their hopes faded when they realised that it was just developers trolling.
So how was the trolling developer caught? Another developer had made a post on the same day saying that the jailbreak for the new iPhone and iOS 6 looked grim. He then went on to say that he was working on something much bigger.
Many fans of jailbreaking picked up on the word “grim” which had been used in the Twitter post, “#gr1mra1n”. Some individuals saw the sarcasm in the message, while others thought that it was associated with the release of the jailbreak.
At the moment there is no jailbreak for the iPhone 5 or iOS 6, and while progress is being made, at the moment you need a developer account to get Cydia on the iPhone 5. There has been some websites claiming to offer the jailbreak, but these have been scams by people wanting money. If you own an older iPhone that is jailbroken, then you might want to keep away from the iOS 6 update for the time being.
