iPhone 5 Aside, Where Is 4S’ iOS 6 Untethered Jailbreak?

By  |

Following the release of iOS 6 and the iPhone 5 in September this year, there has been very little said about an untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 4S. This has been thanks to the fact that the jailbreak teams have been heading towards a jailbreak for iPhone 5.

So does this mean that those with the iPhone 4S will have to remain on iOS 5 forever? And what’s exactly happening at the moment?

Hackers typically release a jailbreak tool that will jailbreak more than one device. This was proven with the release of the iOS 6 jailbreak for the iPhone 4, iPod Touch and the iPhone 3GS.

There has been progress in the exploits of the jailbreak for the iPhone 5 as PlanetBeing said that there was another exploit that would help in jailbreaking the iPhone 5 and more than likely the iPhone 4S as well given the identical processors. It is thought that this would be released at the same time as well.

Hacking teams managed to develop a working jailbreak for the iPhone 4S at the start of this year, however iOS 6 is an improvement and adds many new features to the older device, and many people want to upgrade but are waiting for the jailbreak to arrive. Given that past exploits have been closed by Apple, it is becoming tougher than ever to jailbreak iPhones.

With a recent tip that a failbreak was already in place for the iPhone 5, the possible reason for the jailbreak being kept under wraps was the upcoming iOS 6.0.1 update. Now that this is out, we may see a public release of the jailbreak solution for both the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S.
