The Apple iPhone 5 and iOS 6 have been out for some time now and developers have been putting everything they have into creating an untethered jailbreak. However iOS 6 seems to have them beaten at the moment as it is proving to be one of the hardest operating systems to jailbreak, as Apple have made it tamper proof. Some critical steps are missing and these are needed if developers are to release the untethered jailbreak to owners of the iPhone 5, along with other devices running iOS 6.
iPhone 5 iOS 6 untethered jailbreak report
Jailbreaking is not easy as it relies on the device running software with third party code. This makes changes to files that were used in the configuration of the device, so that owners of the device can change functions of the device, which is not something that Apple like.
The device has to be reformatted and owners are then able to install 3rd party apps, not available in the App Store. The device can be unlocked and the handset used with any carrier as well once jailbroken.
Often small to middle size companies like a jailbroken handset as it allows them to use their own apps on the handset. This means that they don’t have to apply to the Apple App Store and wait to see if they get approval. There is another benefit and this is that firms can pick and choose from carriers and get the best deal. At the moment there is no sign of the jailbreak and this could mean that people may move on to open source devices, such as Android.
Developers have been working on the untethered jailbreak for iOS 6, however at the moment it remains in testing. Middle sized IT companies are hemmed in as they cannot customise their device. There is one thing to come out of all this that is good, and that is the fact that iOS 6 and the iPhone 5 is more secure. Even so some people are still thinking twice about making the upgrade to the new operating system and handset.
Jailbreakers have gotten out jailbreaks for other iPhones in the past quite quickly. However iOS 6 is more difficult to jailbreak than past versions. Developers are still working on the untethered jailbreak , Joshua Hill is one of them, otherwise known as p0sixninja, and his last tweets aren’t encouraging.
Developers usually keep fans posted on the untethered jailbreak through Twitter. They also recently uploaded a video to YouTube and this gave people an insight into the jailbreak process. It showed however that they are not close to being able to release it. So iOS 6 users are keeping their fingers crossed for more positive news.
Apple does deserve a pat on the back for releasing iOS 6 and the iPhone 5 with a higher level of security. Right not it has developers at a standstill, and some of these have been working as security experts for numerous years. iOS 6 has now become the choice of OS for enterprises and those who need tight security.
Still some people would like to be able to jailbreak their Apple iPhone 5, so that the device can be customised to their liking. Some people prefer customisation over having the best security.
For the time being the untethered jailbreak for the Apple iPhone 5 and iOS 6 is nowhere in sight and it could be some time before we see it. For now Apple fans will just have to be patient or stick with an older iPhone and OS, if they want the jailbreak.
