Oh jailbreak community, why do you toy with my hopes! Owners of the iPhone 5 who are waiting to jailbreak their handset have been wondering when the untethered jailbreak will be released for their device. If you were hoping to get it before Christmas then don’t hold your breath as things aren’t looking any better.
iPhone 5 iOS 6 untethered jailbreak progress not good
Just days ago a well-known developer was on Twitter saying that developers were focusing on certain jobs in relation to the iPhone jailbreak. These including looking for exploits in kernels. P0sixninja on the other hand was looking into how to dump the bootROM. This happens to be something that developers haven’t been able to do for years, as security on the iPhone hardware has been tightened.
However if the developer could do this then jailbreaks for the iPhone 5 and even future 5S could be easier. So users on Twitter said were asking p0d2g how the jailbreak was coming, and thanks to him being more prevalent on Twitter recently, this same question has cropped up even more.
On the downside his response wasn’t what fans had hoped. He said that at the moment he wasn’t working on userland exploits. He went on to say that each new day brings about a new challenge and he could begin to work again on the iPhone 5 and iOS 6 jailbreak. The developer has recently been on Twitter talking about him being a DJ at the WWJC 2013 instead.
A video has been recently posted on YouTube and this showed a live stream with top JB developers talking about the jailbreak for iOS 6. The videos gives great insight into just how the developers are doing and includes developers such as MuscleNerd, p0dg and PlanetBeing. Collectively they say that at the moment they are nowhere close to having the iOS 6 untethered jailbreak ready for release.
While there are many people who are happy to see p0d2g back on Twitter, they would have liked for him to have made a return due to some new jailbreak news and not the fact of him being a DJ. Of course developers do have their own lives outside of jailbreaking and if iOS 6 is causing stress as it is harder to break, then maybe they do need a rest.
Joshua Hill from the Chronic Dev Team has talked about just how hard it is to crack iOS 6, saying that Apple have used new protection levels that are ridiculous. At the same time he warned people not to become victim to scammers who were offering the untethered jailbreak for iOS 6 and the iPhone 5 as it wasn’t real.
