iPhone 5 owners who want a bit of freedom for their phones are wondering when the untethered jailbreak will be out. Should we give up all hope?
iPhone 5 iOS 6 untethered jailbreak: a gloomy outlook
A few days ago we saw famous jailbreak developers chatting on Twitter, focusing on particular jobs relating to the iPhone jailbreak, like looking for kernel exploits, while p0sixninja looked for ways to ditch the bootROM. This hasn’t been done for years thanks to the security on iPhone hardware.
If p0sixninja could find a bootROM exploit, then we might see the untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 5, 5S and even the iPhone 6 open up easier. Lots of Twitter users asked p0d2g how the untethered jailbreak is coming along, and since his Twitter account has become active again, lots more are swarming in and asking.
His response wasn’t very encouraging, though. He’s no longer focusing on the userland exploit that many thought he was on. He said that each day brings new challenges and that while he might resume work on the iOS 6 and iPhone 5 jailbreak, he wasn’t working on it at present. He got asked this question a lot after he tweeted about WWJC 2013 and DJing at the event.
Recently a YouTube video showed a live stream of an iOS 6 discussion about the iOS 6 jailbreak. This has given people a lot of insight about how the developers are getting on. Devs like planetbeing, p0d2g and MuscleNerd dropped details in the video that suggested we’re nowhere near a jailbreak release.
Many are glad that p0d2g is back on Twitter, even if it’s just to talk about DJing. It would have been good for him to talk about the jailbreak, but you have to remember that t least some of the developers do have some sort of life outside of jailbreaking. If they’re getting stressed, they need to take a step back.
iOS 6 seems to be a hard nut to crack – Joshua Hill of Chronic Dev claimed that the protection Apple had used was ridiculous. He also urged fans not to fall for online scams promising the iPhone 5 iOS 6 untethered jailbreak – ‘cos it ain’t out yet.
