A new video has made an appearance online that seems to show an iOS 6 device has been jailbroken. This of course has provided owners of the iPhone 5 with a lot of encouragement that the untethered jailbreak may be coming out very soon.
iPhone iOS 6 untethered jailbreak video posted
However at the moment we don’t know if the video is fake or authentic. The video was uploaded by the ARB Dev Team and the hack hasn’t been made public. However what we are supposedly looking at is an iPhone 4S running an untethered jailbreak.
Fans of the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch often jailbreak their handsets to unlock the ecosystem of iOS. The jailbreak provides owners with access to the root of their devices, which means they can install apps, themes and extensions outside of the App Store.
Of course Apple is against this. They even went as far as filing a complaint with the copyright office in the US to make jailbreaking illegal as it violated their copyright.
However it was ruled that jailbreaking is not illegal in October, just one month following the release of the iPhone 5 and iOS 6. Apple have not made it easy for developers to jailbreak the iPhone and developers are saying that the iPhone 5 and iOS 6 is the hardest to jailbreak so far.
The video which has been uploaded by the ARB dev team (see below) shows what seems to be the iPhone 4S running on iOS 6 and shows the loading of Cydia. If this is the real deal then the jailbreak should basically work on the iPhone 5 as well. We’ll keep you posted as more develops.
