People waiting for the untethered iOS 6 and iPhone 5 jailbreak had their hopes raised after a well-known hacker posted a comment on Twitter. The Tweet made it seem that a jailbreak was out, and loads fell for it, despite it being way too early, especially after loads of failures.
iPhone 5 iOS 6 untethered jailbreak tweet raised (& then dashes) hopes
@p0sixninja got loads of replies after his Tweet “implied” that he had the longed-for jailbreak. Hackers tend to use numbers and “rain” when announcing jailbreaks, but fans’ hopes died when it became obvious it was just trolling developers.
How was this naughty boy caught out, then? Another developer had tweeted on the same day to say that prospects for the new iPhone 5 and iOS 6 looked grim, and that he was working on a bigger issue.
Followers picked up on “grim”, which had been used in the @p0sixninja Tweet “#gr1mra1n”. While some saw the sarcasm, others thought it was related to the release of the jailbreak.
There is no jailbreak for the iPhone 5 or for iOS 6. Progress is being made, but you need a developer account to install Cydia on the iPhone 5. Some websites have touted the jailbreak, but they are scams, and ask for money. If you have an older, jailbroken iPhone, then forget about the iOS 6 update now.
