With the iPhone 5 still not in sight, Apple’s iPhone 4S will go head to head with the likes of the HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S3.
iPhone 4S sales more likely affected by iPhone 5 than Samsung Galaxy S3 or HTC One X
While these two smartphones offer more powerful hardware than the now aging iPhone 4S, it may not be the biggest hindrance to sales of Apple’s current flagship.
Earlier this week, Apple warned investors that returns for Q2 will be lower than previously projected. This alongside reports of Apple reducing iPhone 4S orders down to 27 million for the quarter have triggered widespread rumors of the impending launch of the iPhone 5.
Christian Zibreg at iDownloadBlog concludes that, “some analysts are now concerned that Apple is due for a big come down because swirling iPhone 5 rumors could negatively impact sales of the current-generation iPhone 4S/4 as would-be buyers withhold their planned purchases in anticipation of a new model.”
Of course, none of this confirms that the iPhone 5 will launch this summer, leaving a September-October release date still in the cards. However given that WWDC 2012 is now less than a month away, it makes sense that those interested in buying an iPhone will hold off for the next few weeks (and maybe longer if rumors then suggest it’s just around the corner).
On a side note, Apple has successfully managed to ban the import of the HTC One X due to patent infringements. As for the Samsung Galaxy S3, it will not arrive here in the US until later in the summer.
Are you waiting for the iPhone 5? Or will you take a chance and grab the iPhone 4S now?
