iOS 6.1 beta 4 is out and this seems to be the final version, so we could see a public rollout very soon. So just what does this means for those who have been waiting to hear about the untethered jailbreak for iOS 6 for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch?
iPhone 5, 4S & other iOS 6 devices: untethered jailbreak update status
It seems that the Dev Teams are working hard to find the untethered jailbreak and there have been exploits found in firmware. However these have been for the Apple iPhones, 3GS, iPhone 4 and the Apple iPod Touch 4G. If you own any of these devices then there is the Redsn0w jailbreak for iOS 6.
Owners of the Apple iPhone 4S have a jailbreak available to them; however this is only with iOS 5. Absinthe was released for the Apple iPhone 4S running iOS 5. Owners of the Apple iPhone 3GS and 4, along with iPod Touch 4G have a tethered jailbreak at the moment. However you have to undertake the jailbreak again if you reboot or the battery dies.
When it comes to the Apple iPhone 5 there aren’t any options right now and for the time being you cannot jailbreak your handset. Things are not looking good at the moment, so hopes have been dashed that an untethered jailbreak might be released when Apple release the next major update. Ion1c, a popular iOS developer, recently Tweeted that Apple has put tighter security in place with iOS 6.1.
So if you are contemplating updating your device to iOS 6.02 then you may as well go ahead and do it as it doesn’t looks as though there will be an untethered jailbreak anytime soon for iOS 6 devices or the Apple iPhone 5.
