The Apple iPad is a firm favorite while the Google Nexus 7 is a great 7-inch device from Asus that’s proving to be a surprise hit. The folks over at GottaBeMobile (GBM) however point out that there are some things that put the New iPad ‘3’ well ahead of the Google Nexus. 7
New iPad vs Google Nexus 7: Why Apple is the smarter option (GBM)
The Google Asus Nexus 7 tablet is very comfortable to use if you want to surf the web and check emails, and it is perfect for almost every lifestyle. It has a long battery life and there are some great apps on it which look very good. However there is one thing that is missing and this is constant connections to 3G or LTE. The New iPad has LTE and the iPad 2 had 3G, but the Nexus 7 is limited to Wi-Fi.
The Nexus could be tethered of course especially if you own the Samsung Galaxy S3. Even so you cannot surf at the same speeds that you would be able to with the iPad connected to 3G or LTE. And isn’t the internet what tablets are actually all about?
Therefore anyone who wants a tablet with a connection to the internet all the time would like to wait until Google releases a 3G or LTE version of the Nexus 7 (and if that happens expect it to cost more as well).
GBM goes on to point out that the new Mini iPad is rumored to be coming out soon and if their model has support for 4G they are likely to be able to sell millions of the device to those who want a smaller tablet which is always connected to the internet.
So the bottom line is that the New iPad proves to be a better buy than the Nexus 7 solely for this reason. Given that a data connection is needed nowadays for just about everything from playing online games to watching videos on YouTube and streaming music, a tablet is severely handicapped when it is not connected to the internet.
