When Apple launched the iPad Mini the devices was compared alongside all other small tablets on the market. It does cost more than other tablets and some people said that it was better than the others. This of course may be true as it does come from Apple. But how does the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 phablet match up to it.
The Apple iPad Mini comes with an A5 processor from Apple and while it is not the quickest on the market it is not slow. The tablet has the Power VR GPU and this gives the device performance that is solid. The Apple iPad Mini meanwhile comes with 1GB of RAM and it is available in black or white. You can get it with 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of internal storage.
The Samsung Galaxy Note comes with the quad core 1.6GHz processor from Exynos and this means that the graphics are amazing. The phablet comes in 16GB or 32GB and SD can be boosted to 64GB. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 therefore wins for all of these.
The screen of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 offers 306ppi and is 5.5 inches. This is better than the Apple iPad Mini and the display of this is not retina and some people have criticised this.
The Apple iPad Mini does have a superb size but it lacks the technology of the screen of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, which has blacks that are deep, vibrant colours and ppi which is higher.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has Android Jelly Bean 4.1 while the Apple iPad Mini comes with iOS6.1 which is also the latest. Apple claimed that their OS comes with 200 new features, but the App Store comes with more apps than what is currently in the Google Play Store. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is a phablet and doesn’t use tablet apps, this means that it can access the 600,000 apps the Android OS can use. As we are making a comparison of tablets the Apple iPad Mini comes out on top.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 comes with a camera of 8 megapixels and a 1.9 on the front. The Apple iPad Mini comes with the 5 megapixel iSight camera, along with a 2 megapixel on the front, which is capable of recording video at 720p. The camera comes with five elements which ensure that pictures are superb, even when the light is low. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 wins though as the photos are better and the camera is faster.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 wins most points and the hardware is better, plus it comes with a range of goodies, which include S Pen, GPS and NFC. However there are some trade-offs. The Apple iPad Mini gets access to any apps that have been optimised for tablets and it comes with a price tag that is lower.
