It’s official folks! The iPad Mini is finally here and Tim Cook himself took center stage at the Apple event today to announce the latest member to the iOS family. Here are the details including features, price, specs and more!
iPad Mini now official: specs, features, price, release date
Here’s what we know so far: It’s as light as a pad of paper. We were going to say book, but books are heavier! It is available in Black and white — a treatment more like the iPhone 5. It is called the iPad Mini and is just 7.2mm thick. That’s about a quarter thinner than the 4th gen iPad. Thinner than a pencil. Nevertheless it has the same resolution as the iPad 2. The display is 7.9 inches which matches up with rumors.
So how does it match up to its 7-inch rivals like the Google Nexus 7 and Amazon Kindle Fire you ask? Well theirs is made of plastic, it’s thicker and heavier points out Apple. They also state that the extra inch means about a 50% larger display area in the browser (taking the resolution in as well of course). Then there is the App Store too which is better than the Google Play Store when it comes to the number of tablet specific apps.
Features aside, specs wise the iPad Mini has 10 hours battery life. How is this possible in such a thin device? Apple’s head designed Jonny Ive chimes in by saying that the iPad Mini has the thinnest single cell battery the company has ever designed. The iPad Mini also boasts a Lightning connector (of course), A5 chipset, LTE versions, FaceTime HD camera and a 5MP iSight camera around back.
The iPad Mini starts with a 16GB model, and will be price at $329.
