The iPad Mini is an excellent small tablet but we can’t get over the fact that it costs $329 but doesn’t offer a Retina Display. Next year though the latter may be corrected..
iPad Mini 2 may have Retina display (rumor)
According to AppleInsider, Apple may be focusing on an updated iPad Mini and it would come with a Retina display.
If this is true then the tablet could have a display of 2048 x 1536. This would have higher ppi than the full sized iPad with 264ppi, thanks to the screen size.
Apple is thought to be changing the 9.7 inch LED back light on the iPad Mini, this will go from dual light bars to just one and this will also keep down the weight of the tablet, along with ensuring that the profile is slim.
Of course this news comes from DigiTimes, who in the past have not been all that good when forecasting products to come from Apple. However on saying this, their sources in the display industry may be more reliable. In October they said that AU Optronics would become a supplier for the iPad Mini screens and another report said that yields were the cause of the delay of the iPad Mini, the new iMac and the 13 inch MacBook Pro with the Retina display
