What’s going on with the untethered jailbreak for the iPad and iOS 6? There’s an iOS 6 jailbreak in the pipeline, and while we’re all waiting for the iPhone 5 jailbreak as this has attracted the most attention, it’s believed that this solution will work on iPads too.
iOS 6 untethered jailbreak for iPad Mini & full-sized iPad
The iOS 6 jailbreak for the iPad will probably come out at the same time as the iOS 6 jailbreak – whenever that is. It’s thought that the jailbreak will work on the iPad 3, the iPad 4 and the iPad Mini, all iOS 6 devices.
All previous jailbreaks have worked on the iPhone and the iPad, including the last jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1. The only jailbreak out now is for older devices running iOS 6, like the iPhone 4 and the iPod Touch.
Devs like Pod2g and Planetbeing haven’t revealed which devices this new jailbreak will work on, but one would assume, looking to history, that it’ll work on the iPhones 4S and 5, as well as the iPad 3, the iPad 4 and the iPad Mini.
The iPad 4 jailbreak may be a bit later, as it’s for the Apple A6X chip, although hackers might work on getting this out at the same time.
Right now we have proof of this jailbreak working on an iPhone 5 and iPad. MuscleNerd uploaded a screengrab of this, followed by a screenshot of the jailbreak working on the iPad. PlanetBeing stated the same for his iPone 5. These two give hope to jailbreaking fans of an imminent public version.
One thing that may stand in the way of the iPad Mini and iPad 4 jailbreak is some new rulings. Last October saw a ruling that stated tablets were no longer included in DMCA exemptions.
This, in short, means that it’s legal to jailbreak an iPhone 5, but not the iPad 4 or the iPad Mini. This might not stop an iPad jailbreak being created and released, though.
It seems that progress is being made on the iOS 6 jailbreak, though, however slow.
PlanetBeing is currently working on the untethered iOS 6 jailbreak. Untethered means that you can restart your device without having to have it connected to your PC to jailbreak it all over again. Untethered solutions are vastly preferred to tethered for this reason, as it’s unrealistic for most people. We also have to keep in mind that Apple’s lawyers may be watching these developers like hawks for the mention of an iPad jailbreak.
