iPad Mini iOS 6 Untethered Jailbreak: New Controversy

By  |

Jailbreak fans want to know where things stand in regards to the untethered jailbreak for iOS 6 and the Apple iPad Mini. Developers are working on a jailbreak for iOS 6, and while people typically associate the latest news with the Apple iPhone 5, it generally works for all iOS devices by default i.e. iPod touch & iPads too.

iPad Mini iOS 6 untethered jailbreak & legal implications

When the jailbreak comes out for the Apple iPhone it is thought that it will also be linked with the Apple iPad 3, 4 and the Apple iPad Mini, all of which run iOS 6.

Past jailbreaks have been offered and they work on the Apple iPhone along with the Apple iPad, including the last jailbreak, which was for iOS 5.1.1. The latest jailbreak that is out runs on iOS 6, but only on the older devices, which includes the Apple iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4g.

Planetbeing and Pod2g, among other developers have not given out information as to which devices the untethered jailbreak should work on. If releases in the past are anything to go on then it should work for the Apple iPhone 5, the iPhone 4S, iPad 3, 4 and the Apple iPad Mini.

The jailbreak for the Apple iPad 4 may come at a later date due to it having the A6X processor. It is thought that the hackers may work on bringing this out at the same time.

We have seen proof of the jailbreak running on the Apple iPad 4, the Apple iPhone 5 and iPad Mini, all of which have iOS 6. MuscleNerd put screenshots on the internet and this was then followed by photos of the Apple iPad 4 with the jailbreak running on it. The images did at least give hope to fans waiting for it.

Of course recent rulings have changed and this could mean the jailbreak is stopped for the Apple iPad 4 and Mini. A ruling which came out in October means that the Apple iPad is no longer included in the exemptions from the DMCA.

What this means is that the Apple iPhone 5 can be jailbroken legally, however the Apple iPads, along with the iPad Mini cannot be jailbroken legally.

There has been progress when it comes to the jailbreak, however for the time being there is not a public release of the jailbreak available and we’re not sure if there ever can be.
