iOS 6 Untethered Jailbreak For iPhone 4S & 5: Current Standing

By  |

With iOS 6.1 Beta 4 out and appearing to be the final version before a possible rollout, we may see iOS 6.1 be made available to the masses sometime next month. So what does this mean to those waiting for the iOS 6 untethered jailbreak for the iPhone & iPod touch?

iPhone iOS 6 untethered jailbreak update

iPhone Dev reams are still working to find an untethered jailbreak for iOS 6. So far exploits in the firmware have been found for the iPhones 3GS, iPhone 4 and the iPod Touch 4G. For those who own this, they can use Redsn0w for an iOS 6 jailbreak.

Moving on up, iPhone 4S owners can enjoy a jailbreak too but only if they will stay with iOS 5. They can use Absinthe for the iPhone 4S on iOS 5. There is also a tethered jailbreak for the iPhones 3GS and 4 and the iPod Touch 4G but we know how that goes with reboots and all.

As for the iPhone 5, there are no options at this time and you will need to remain “locked.” Now we hate to be the bearer of bad news but those who were hoping that the iPhone 5 would receive its untethered jailbreak after Apple made its next major OS release, things don’t look so good. Recently famed iOS jailbreak expert i0n1c tweeted that iOS 6.1 has even tougher security measures in place over iOS 6, and this further makes an iPhone 5 untethered jailbreak impossible.

So if you’re considering updating to iOS 6.02 at this time, go ahead, as we don’t see an iOS 6 untethered jailbreak coming anytime soon for the iPhone 5 or other iOS 6 devices waiting for an untethered solution.
