Some of the most asked questions at the moment surrounding iOS 6 and the iPhone are how can you jailbreak iOS firmware and what do you have to do to install Cydia on the iPhone 4S. So just what is happening in the jailbreak world and are we any close to jailbreaking iOS 6 for the iPhone 4S and other Apple iOS devices?
Update: iOS 6 untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S and other iOS devices
The iPhone dev teams are working flat out to try and crack exploits in the iOS 6 firmware. To some extent they have made headway, however this has only been for a couple of devices, these include the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G. If you own any of these devices then iOS 6 can be jailbroken. This means that you would have to download RedSnOw to your computer and then setup and install it and plug in your handset and follow the instructions. But what about if you have the iPhone 4S?
The iPhone dev team did release a jailbreak for the iPhone 4S running iOS 5 this year. This was in the shape of Absinthe, which to date has been the only tool released to jailbreak the iPhone 4S. However if you own the iPhone 4S and you have iOS 6 installed, then you will have to wait as at the moment there is no jailbreak in sight. The same can be said about the iPhone 5 of course.
At the moment only the tethered jailbreak for the iPhone 3GS and 4, along with the iPod Touch 4G on iOS 6 has been released. This comes with restrictions, which includes the fact that if you need to restart your handset or the battery dies, you will have to jailbreak the device all over again. The untethered jailbreak is not out yet.
Developers are still stumped by iOS 6 and hackers have not told us anything about how close they are to hacking into iOS 6.
