First Apple did it with Siri for the iPhone 4S, then Samsung followed on with S-Voice in the Samsung Galaxy S3, then LG got in on the act with Quick Voice. Now, according to MobiGyaan, HTC may well be working on voice recognition if this teaser is anything to go by.
HTC to rival Samsung Galaxy S3 & iPhone 4S with own personal voice assistant?
HTC posted the image on Facebook and Twitter, and shows off a potential competitor to the more established voice assistants. The picture featured a dialogue between the voice assistant and a dog called Spot. Spot is speaking in woofs, but the phone understands him and his need to find out the big stuff like when his master is home from work and what the weather in the dog park will be at that time.
The picture has a “Top Secret” stamp on it, but you can see the dog talking to the phone and the phone responding. Particularly gullible dog lovers are let down gently by the disclaimer: ‘Sorry dog fans, this isn’t real’. We all (well, most of us) know that the app can’t translate barks, but it’s obvious that HTC wants us to know that it’s about to launch an app that may be able to understand humans.
Let’s wait and see (like Spot) what HTC has cooking, and hope it’s as good as Siri and S-Voice. Both the Samsung Galaxy S3 and iPhone 4S are well-known for their voice assistant apps and it is indeed strange that HTC didn’t reveal a rival with the HTC One X earlier this year.
