The Samsung Galaxy S3 is without doubt one of the top selling handsets of 2012. However the HTC One X is also a great handset and has been battling the more superior S3 for some time now. Nevertheless, despite being in direct competition to the best selling smartphone of 2012, HTC still manages to shine brightly. How does it accomplish that?
Samsung Galaxy S3 vs HTC One X: HTC stands out depending how you “look at it”
Both of the devices have Android 4.0 and the HTC One X has a quad-core processor of 1.5GHz compared to the 1.4GHz of the Samsung Galaxy S3. However benchmarks have shown that this is nothing to go on and thanks to the architecture of the chip in the S3, it is the more powerful device. If on the other hand you go along with bigger is better other than checking out benchmarking sites, the HTC One X would win.
Both of the devices have cameras of 8 megapixels which take HD video at 1080p. They also have LED flash and autofocus and HTC have said that their camera beats that of the iPhone 4S and boasts tons of after-capture features. Samsung on the other hand failed to give their camera much publicity. This led many to believe that it was the same as the one on the S2 and if not, a marginal improvement.
Next up is design. The HTC One X can take the Samsung Galaxy S3 on in this department easily. It has what many claim to be a better design and it looks more like a premium handset than the glossy plastic S3.
Given that both the Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC One X boast top-end specs, if you were to check out both devices in person the HTC One X would outshine the S3 in terms of looks but fall short in many other areas (no expandable storage, non-removable battery, lesser software add-ons). But with the latest generation flagships putting as much effort into their design as their hardware (e.g. iPhone 5, Motorola DROID RAZR HD), the Galaxy S3 will continue to be judged based on its cover.
