Rumours have come out about the HTC M7 which contradicts earlier rumours about the device.
HTC M7 rumors growing
This new rumour says that the HTC M7 will have a design very similar to that of the HTC Droid DNA, with the black shell and the bevelled edge along the display. This contradicts what was said earlier about the device, which said that the handset would come with a shell of aluminium. Another rumour was that the device would have buttons on-screen.
One of the most interesting titbits of information is when it comes to software. A report has said that the HTC M7 will have Android 4.1.2 on it; however this would be updated to Android 4.2 when the handset was launched. The device however is said to have a clean and simple version of Sense on it, which is thought to be HTC Sense 5.
HTC have toned down customisation with Sense recently and so HTC Sense 5 could offer an experience that would be very close to a pure Android experience.
There haven’t been any new rumours about the specs of the device. it is still thought that the handset will have the Snapdragon processor of 1.7GHz, along with 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage and a back camera of 13 megapixel. The front camera could be 2 megapixel and both should be able to record 1080p. Connection options may include LTE and Wi-Fi complete with 802.11ac support, which would boost the speed by as much as 3 times, compared to that of the 802.11n.
While this is some solid hardware, I can’t help but see it as an upgraded HTC DROID DNA. HTC stated that their poor sales were due to bad marketing. If it is true then the HTC M7 won’t have much more luck either. For example, the Samsung Galaxy S3 was last year’s best seller and its marketing campaign was based on taking potshots at rivals, mainly the iPhone 5. Samsung highlighted the unique features of the Samsung Galaxy S3 like Smart Stay which tracks eye movement, the ability to reject calls by turning the device down and other little things that help both consumers at the boys at marketing when pushing a smartphone that is suppose to be truly advanced. If the HTC M7 is a doppleganger for the DROID DNA and just has slightly upgraded hardware, it will likely not d much better than the DNA when it is up against the 2013 flagships from other manufacturers. That’s my two cents at least.
