The Samsung Galaxy S3 has been ahead in the smartphone market since it was released in May of this year. Trying to stake their claim in the market is HTC with the recently released J Butterfly. This device while only in Japan at the moment is expected to make its way over to the US under the guise of HTC Deluxe or something else along those lines. So which of these two handsets comes with the best specs? Let’s find out.
Samsung Galaxy S3 vs HTC J Butterfly
The Samsung Galaxy S3 has the power of the Exynos quad core 1.4GHz processor with 1GB RAM and the HTC J Butterfly has the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor at 1.5GHz with 2GB RAM. Both handsets offer speed and superb performance and are basically equally matched however the HTC has the slightly higher clock speed and more RAM so we will have to give it the crown here. It is important to also note that the US S3 models have 2GB RAM but dual-core processors. Winner: HTC J Butterfly
The Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with a display of Super AMOLED at 4.8 inches with 1280 x 720 pixels. The HTC J Butterfly has a 5 inch screen which is Super LCD 3 and the display is full HD with 1920 x 1080p resolution. The Butterfly also beats the ppi of the S3 with 440ppi compared to 306ppi. Winner: HTC J Butterfly.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 comes in at 5.38 x 2.78 x 0.34 inches, while the HTC J Butterfly is 5.62 x 2.79 x 0.35. This makes it taller, thicker and wider than the Galaxy S3. The S3 also happens to be the lighter of the two handsets at 4.6 ounces while the Butterfly is 4.93 ounces. Winner: Samsung Galaxy S3.
When it comes to memory the Samsung Galaxy S3 is available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB and users can add on another 64GB via SD card. The HTC J Butterfly is behind in this category with 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded to 32GB. Winner: Samsung Galaxy S3.
The camera on the Samsung Galaxy S3 is 8 megapixels and it has support for autofocus and LED flash and the device has a 1.9 megapixel camera on the front. The HTC J Butterfly has a camera of 8 megapixels too and a 2.1 megapixel enhanced camera on the front. Both of the devices support 1080p recording of video. Winner: HTC J Butterfly for better front camera.
The HTC J Butterfly runs on Jelly Bean Android 4.1and the S3 is packed with ICS Android 4.0, with the update to Jelly Bean making its way slowly. This will mean that both handsets have the same OS when the update is complete but for now, its HTC’s point. Winner: HTC J Butterfly
The Samsung Galaxy S3 has a battery of 2100mAh and this should provide around 650 minutes of talk time and 750 hours on standby when on the 3G network. The HTC J Butterfly has the 2020mAh battery and the standby and talk time is as yet unknown. Given its lower capacity and bigger display, Samsung’s odds look better. Winner: Samsung Galaxy S3.
Connectivity: Both of the handsets are well up on connectivity options and these include NFC, Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi and more.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 comes in the choice of marble white and pebble blue at the moment, with more colours being introduced, including red, brown, grey and black. However some of these will only be available on certain markets. The HTC J Butterfly will come in black, white and red versions. In terms of design, the Samsung Galaxy S3 has been criticized for its plastic fantastic glossy body. The Butterfly on the other hand is as handsome as the One X range. Winner: HTC J Butterfly
