We’ve been hearing rumors of the HTC J Butterfly making its way to Verizon Wireless as their first 1080p phone for sometime now. Nothing more was known about the Verizon variant of the HTC J Butterfly until now.
Verizon HTC DROID DNA the specs, release date and rumors roundup
According to GottaBeMobile, Verizon will probably be launching the competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 very soon and this will take on the official name of the HTC DROID DNA. This is the handset which went by the name of the Droid Incredible X and which had the codename of the HTC DLX. Internationally it is called the HTC J Butterfly and it will locally be taking on two other Verizon phablets – thse Galaxy Note 2 and the LG Intuition.
Verizon have the Galaxy Note 2 with its 5.5 inch display and this should be out by 29th November. The Note 2 is one of the best phablets thanks to the superb HD display, 4G LTE, quad core processor and Jelly Bean, along with the S Pen.
It is thought that unlike the Note 2, the DROID DNA will not have a massive launch. This is the HTC Butterfly J after all, so with this in mind it could be that HTC will launch the device quietly.
GBM adds that you also shouldn’t expect to see pricing and a release date until just before the handset comes onto the shelves. The Note 2 had its pre-orders announced just before it release, and maybe the same will happen with this device.
There has been a leaked minimum advertised price and this indicates that it could be after 20th November before we see the device. The price was $199.99.
There have been leaks about the design of the HTC DROID DNA too, and of course it is based on the HTC J Butterfly. From what we have seen already the handset will come in black and have the back similar to the Droid 2. The handset looks to be on the slim side, just like the Note 2. The camera on the back is in the middle and comes with LED flash.
The display should be 5 inches and have a resolution of 1080p which offers 400ppi. However there have been reports of the display being the LCD 2.
The device may come with 2GB of RAM and it should have the quad core processor. The battery may be 2020mAh, which is smaller than that of the Note 2 at 3100mAh. Whether it will have Jelly Bean 4.1 or 4.1.2 is anyone’s guess.
When it comes to price the LG Intuition was launched on contract at $199.99, while the Note 2 came with the price tag of $299.99 for the 16GB version on contract. It is thought that HTC may want to make the most of this and offer the Droid DNA on contract for $199.99.
