How To Pick: Chevy Silverado vs Ford F-150 vs Ram 1500 EcoDiesel

By  |

The Chevy Silverado, Ford F-150 and the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel are three superb pickup trucks that you might be mulling over. All of them are hard workers and they are all superb for towing and hauling things around. So which of these would you choose?

The 2016 Chevrolet Silverado has been given a new design and it comes with the eight speed auto transmission and the 5.3 litre V8 engine or the 6.2 litre V8 engine. It does offer up the lowest output of the three trucks and you can really tell this when you are towing some weight behind it.

The 5.3 litre engine feels a bit on the lethargic side, as though it really can’t be bothered to pull whatever you are towing. On the plus side is the fact that the cabin is relatively quiet and the steering does offer up good feedback.

The Ford F-150 comes with the 3.5 litre EcoBoost turbocharged V6 engine with the Platinum trim and it doesn’t offer up a cabin that is as nice as the Chevrolet Silverado or the Ram 1500. On the plus side it does offer up a ride that is comfortable and it comes with massaging seats. Loading and unloading cargo is made easy. It does pull up to 6,000lbs with ease and the powertrain does feel the strongest out of them all.

The Ford F-150 has light steering and the suspension may be too jittery for some people. It does offer up the harshest ride out of the three if you are driving it without anything in the back.

The RAM 1500 comes in as the winner as this is the only truck that comes with the diesel engine. It offers the 3 litre V6 turbocharged diesel engine along with air suspension and this may be the ideal vehicle for towing. The materials in the cabin are superb as is the design and it comes with the Uconnect interface.

It doesn’t offer up as much by way of storage as the Ford F-150 but the suspension is superb and this ensures that you get a ride that is smooth and flat. You should be able to get around 26.5mpg from the Ram 1500 when you are not towing and about 27.3mpg when carrying 1,000lbs of weight.

But which of these three would you choose, would you go for the Ford F-150, the RAM 1500 or the Ford F-150?
