Google Nexus 5X Shown Back Door To Android 7.1

By  |

The Google Nexus 5X has been given a sneaky back door pass to Android 7.1 by way of a custom Android Nougat Rom.

The CyanogenMod team has released CM14.1 for the Google Nexus 5X but as it is a nightly build you may come across some issues and some of the features may not work as expected.

Before you set about installing Android Nougat 7.1 on your Google Nexus 5X you should backup your date, ensure you have 80% battery life, have a rooted handset and make sure that USB debugging is enabled and recovery such as CWM or TWRP is installed.

You will need to download the CM14.1 Android 7.1 Nougat Rom for the Nexus 5X along with Google Apps.

You can then connect your handset to the computer and copy the file to the internal storage. Turn off the handset and unplug it from the computer.

You can then enter into Recovery and hold the power, volume up and volume down buttons. When you let go of them you will see Fastboot or Bootloader and you can then use the volume keys to navigate and power to choose. Choose Bootloader then Recovery.

Choose backup and restore and make a Nandroid backup and then head to the main menu. Wipe the date by choosing wipe date/factory reset and then wipe cache partition and delvik cache wipe.

You can now install choosing install zip from sdcard and then find the CM14.1 Rom and choose confirm.

Do the same as above for GApps and then reboot the Google Nexus 5X and you will have Android 71. Nougat installed.

Alternatively, you could just sign up for preview builds and get an OTA update.
