Google Teases First Nexus 5 Feature: A Breakthrough In Camera Tech

By  |

The Senior Vice President of Engineering for Google has been on Google + teasing fans about improvements for the upcoming Google Nexus handsets, saying there has been improvements to the camera.

One very interesting comment in the thread was in relation to the fact about whether he really needed to take his DSLR camera with him on a trip, when he had his Android device to capture photos. He then decided that he would need the DSLR with the 50mm 1.2 lens for taking photos with shallow depth of field.

A user theorized that one day people would be able to throw away their DSLR camera as the Nexus handset would offer the same quality photos.

Gundotra teased by saying “ We are committed to make Nexus phones insanely great cameras.” He then said, “Just wait and see.”

Google have boosted the software side to improve photos, however it seems that Gundotra was teasing fans about some major improvements to the hardware of cameras. The LG Nexus 4 was a large step up over the Samsung Galaxy Nexus for photos, but it seems that there are plans for more improvement with the next Nexus handsets.

Google is thought to be revealing the Motorola X device alongside the Google Nexus 5 later this year, so we may see improvements in the camera on this device too.

Dwayne is a jack of all trades. Not only is he an executive editor and collaborates on many stories here at Autoomobile, but he also does artwork and handles the running of the website on a daily basis. We’re not sure what we would do without Dwayne, especially on those days when we have a great scoop and our servers can’t handle the influx of traffic.
