There is no doubt that electric and hybrid models are going to play an important role in the auto industry in the future and the automakers are wasting no time getting there.
According to Reuters, Ford will be investing $11 billion to launch their future plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles. It was reported that Ford aims to released 40 models in total by 2022. If the 40, 16 of them will be electric powertrains while the others will be plug-in hybrid models.
Although they did not announce what vehicles will be getting electrified first, they did suggest that their iconic models will most likely be the first to get it. Right now, we know that hybrids versions of the Ford Mustang, Ford F-150 and Transit are already in the works with the Mustang and F-150 Hybrid arriving by 2020. Models like the Escape and Expedition should follow soon after.
