we saw a lot of hints saying that the untethered jailbreak for iOS6.1 would be released on Super Bowl day, which was yesterday. Now the website says that the jailbreak is 80% complete, which is reassuring that the release may not be too far away.
The next step for the jailbreak is extended beta testing, which will roll out to select users on OSX, Windows and Linux. This is to ensure that any issues are ironed out before the release to the public for all three platforms.
The progress for the jailbreak has increased since Apple launched iOS6.1 and so there should be no horrible surprises in store with the final version of the OS, which means that the jailbreak should remain on schedule.
There has been some websites popping up that have asked for a small fee for the jailbreak. However these proved to be fakes and you have to fill in a survey to get to a download. At the moment the only untethered jailbreak for iOS 6.1 is the one that the developers are working on at the Evasi0n website.
While you are still waiting for the jailbreak to appear you may wish to bear some important facts in mind.
Backup your device before using the jailbreak. This way you will not lose all your data if something goes wrong.
Disable the lock passcode and it can cause problems.
Be patient when waiting for the jailbreak to go ahead and don’t start up iTunes or Xcode. Do not touch the computer until the process has gone ahead.
You will also need to have five minutes of your time to spare, a computer with Windows, minimum XP, Mac OS X 10.5 minimum, Linux X86/X86_64. A device on iOS running iOS6 to iOS6.1 and a USB cable for connection to the computer.
