Dodge Charger, Challenger Would Be Scary With New RWD Platform

By  |

The head honcho at Alfa Romeo has said that the company is considering sharing the rear-wheel drive architecture of their vehicles with other vehicles in the Fiat Chrysler family. We can just imagine what the Dodge Charger and Challenger would be like if they offered the RWD platform, scary.

He went on to say that modifying the platform so that it spawned more FCA products was a strong possibility. The car maker knows that they are holding onto a jewel thanks to the driving dynamics being the best there are in class. Therefore it would be a shame for them to keep it only for Alfa Romeo.

The platform may be used on vehicles that are both higher and lower than Alfa Romeo, so in the future it would be entirely possible to see vehicles such as the Dodge Charger and the Challenger get the platform.

We did hear rumours going around that the platform of Alfa Romeo might eventually be the underpinnings for many vehicles from Dodge and this includes the Charger sedan, Durango SUV, Challenger coupe and the Journey crossover. While they would be offered as standard with rear-wheel drive, it has been said that all-wheel drive may be an option.

If Alfa Romeo shared costs with brand names such as Dodge it would make a lot of sense as they spent over $1 billion on developing the Giorgio architecture. Of course the FCA would then have to spend this much on adapting the platform to ensure that it could be used in other vehicles.
