Could Nissan Revive The Mitsubishi Lancer Evo?

By  |

People haven’t been holding their breath waiting for a new Mitsubishi Lancer Evo to come out but now it is said that Nissan may help with the revival of the vehicle.

It was just months ago when we found out that Mitsubishi gave out false emissions numbers for many of their models. Now Nissan is making a huge investment in the company by way of $2.2 billion, which gives them 34% ownership. So it is looking as though with Nissans help the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo may come back and if so it would be the only performance sedan that could rival the Subaru WRX STi.

When asked what they would do to help get Nissan back on track they didn’t say much. However the CEO said that answers would be coming soon. He did go on to say that whatever they did was going to be huge between Mitsubishi and Nissan. But the question is how it will affect the market in the US.

So could it be that we are going to see the revival of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo to take on the likes of the Subaru WRX STi?

You quote. “It was just months ago when we found out that Mitsubishi gave out false emissions numbers for many of their models.”

This is an incorrect statement. We did not falsify emissions, we overstated MPG figures for Japanese domestic market vehicles.
