We think it’s a tough call to choose between the two; and it’s not surprising if you’re thinking the same way too. We’ve seen the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro go head to head almost all the time; it’s seemingly a showdown that nobody gets tired of watching. But do we really have a winner here; is it an obvious one that truly deserves the title?
Do note that we’re comparing between the refreshed 2016 Camaro versus the 2015 model version of the Ford Mustang, so it’s going to be ever-popular red-hot muscle car versus the newbie-but-actually-only-a-redesigned muscle car. Check out what we have to say about these two cars and see how they are both stacked up against one another:
In terms of engines, two of Camaro’s three engines outmuscle the combined engines of the Mustang. And moreover, though Camaro’s 2.0-litre engine delivers only 275 horsepower whereas the Mustang’s 2.3-litre turbo gives out a 310 horsepower, the latter is only possible when fed with premium fuel. So, it’s definitely obvious buyers would naturally go for the Camaro when they’ve put the engines into consideration.
The Mustang could win in the category for suspension/brakes. That’s because we still wouldn’t know for sure how well Camaro’s suspension could do until the car gets closer to launch this year. Hence, we’ve got to give props to Mustang for the time being since their independent suspension has well been cited for providing the best handling performance in the car’s 50-year history.
And did we mention that the Camaro’s cabin is far more crowded than that of the Mustang’s? Let’s not forget about the form-over-function exterior which created some cool ergonomic woes inside. We’d also like to think that the Camaro looks more Transformer-ish than the Mustang could ever be. But then again, maybe the latter’s more made for a Fast and Furious film.
As for the curb weight, Camaro takes the advantage here again. If we were talking about this seven years ago, Mustang would have had the advantage instead with its sizeable curb weight. Since they are both going in completely different directions now, Chevy takes the cherry on top here due to having its car shaved at least 200 pounds. Those figures alone say a lot, don’t you think?
It’s clear here that the Camaro takes the cake this time around (or possibly it always has been). You’ve seen that one coming, huh?
