Tuaw reports on a camera test between the iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S3, HTC One X, Nokia Pureview 808 and the Nokia Lumia 920, has the best camera?
Best camera: iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S3, HTC One X or Nokia Lumia 920?
The camera of the iPhone 5 was put to the test against the Nokia PureView 808, HTC One X, Samsung Galaxy S3 and a prototype of the Nokia Lumia 920. The Pureview 808 and Nokia Lumia 920 came out on top in low light, thanks to the PureView technology. The PureView 808 has an oversampling technique that is able to capture images at high megapixels while condensing it to a lower megapixel and keeping the detail and clarity. The Nokia Lumia 920 has optical image stabilisation.
Runner up to the Nokia devices was the iPhone 5, which produced photos that were just a little darker than those of the Nokia Lumia 920 and not quite as detailed. However this is not such a surprise as the small sensors on cameras often struggle in low light. The camera on the iPhone 5 did however outperform that of the HTC One X and the Samsung Galaxy S3. Both of these phones had grainy darker images.
If you want a handset for taking photos in not the best lighting conditions then the Lumia devices are the best. However the iPhone 5, HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S3 aren’t too bad after all as long as there is a sufficient light source.
