Audi Q7 And BMW X5 Look To Volvo XC90 For Lessons

By  |

The Audi Q7 and BMW X5 are looking towards the Volvo XC90 for lessons as the XC90 has managed to boost and revive the Volvo branding all on its own.

When Geely invested $11 billion into Volvo four years back many people were surprised. However they made a good investment as some of the money was used to develop a new engine and some of it was used for the SPA platform.

The Volvo XC90 and S90 show this and Volvo vehicles have been increasing in sales year after year. This has been largely due to the XC90, whose sales have increased by a whopping 259% over in the US.

The Volvo XC90 is now 18 months old but in another four years it is going to be the oldest in the line-up of Volvo vehicles thanks to SPA. Recently the Volvo boss spoke up and said that by the middle of 2018 they want to be able to produce 100,000 vehicles each year. He went on to talk about autonomous driving and of course Volvo and Uber have a partnership.

Volvo has done a great deal of research into autonomous driving and the Volvo XC90 has been the model of choice. It has been seen in the autonomous version driving around Pittsburgh.

Volvo said that they want to be able to sell 800,000 vehicle per year worldwide and they have sold 425,000 up to now, which means that they have doubled sales within four years. They do still think that they are on target and the Volvo XC90 may well help them to achieve that target.
