It’s all about the iPhone 5, apparently. Customers are wildly excited about the latest phone, says a survey from US online shop PriceGrabber, and just mildly enthused about the new iPad mini.
Majority of Apple fans waiting for iPhone 5, not iPad mini
PriceGrabber polled 1,740 shoppers, and found that 34% were hoping the iPhone 5 would be unveiled at Apple’s September 12 event. Only 28% were hoping for the 7” iPad Mini, and a greedy 38% wanted both to come to the party.
It looks like it’ll be the launch of the iPhone 5 next week. Rumors were rumbling about the iPad Mini and the next iPad Touch getting a look-in, it now looks more like they’ll have their own ceremony in October. Apple expert John Gruber of Daring Fireball reckons that the company won’t want to splurge out on two hot gadgets at once.
Interestingly, 21% of the PriceGrabber survey sample plan to buy an iPhone 5, and 13% hope to buy an iPad Mini. 16% of the iPhone 5 hopefuls intend to buy it during its first week, and 19% within its first month.
Some (34%) of these same hopefuls have been waiting for a while to switch from another device to an iPhone and want the very latest version. Around half of those intending to buy the iPhone 5 say they’re most interested in its new specs and features.
The iPhone 5 will probably have a bigger screen (most likely 4”) and 4G LTE capability. Analysts reckon that the iPhone 5 will be among the biggest Apple product launches ever, with Piper Jaffrey analyst Gene Munster reckoning that the gadget will shift 10 million units in seven days.
