Most of the newer models are being released with features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and since these features were just offered as part of the newer models, most people assume that the feature will be offered for free forever but with the latest rumor about the BMW looking to change their Apple CarPlay from a one time option thing to a yearly subscription service feature.
Although BMW has not made the announcement yet, it was reported by The Verge that BMW is looking to implement that in the future. It is said that BMW wants to do that because their Apple Carplay is now being offered as a $300 option and if the customers decide to switch to some other service like Android in 2 to 3 years, they would be wasting more money. They felt like it would be better if their customers only need to pay $80 a year for the service.
Of course, that does not mean that the other automakers will also be doing the same but with some people are worried if BMW starts charging for Apple CarPlay, the other automakers would also follow.
Of course, this is just a speculation right now. What do you think?
