Owners of the Google Nexus 5X have been very happy as they now have an update that takes them to Android 7.1 Nougat. This is thanks to a custom ROM from CyanogenMod.
CyanogenMod revealed the CM14.1 ROM for owners of the Nexus 5X to install and this brings the unofficial Nougat version to the handset. Of course this is a nightly build and as such there are going to be somethings that will not work as they should.
If you don’t mind putting a ROM onto your Google Nexus 5X yourself it is a great option for getting Nougat on your device. There are some things you need to do before going ahead and installing the ROM. For instance you need to have USB debugging enabled and your handset has to be rooted and you should have CWM or TWRP installed. Once you have met these conditions you can check out the steps below to update you handsets.
First of all you need to download the CM14.1 ROM and Google Apps onto your computer. You can then turn the device on and head to recovery. To do this you can hold down the Volume up, down and the power button. When you let go you will see Bootloader of Fastboot. You should now go into Bootloader and Recovery using the volume keys to navigate and the power button to choose.
Make sure you do a Nandroid back up and go to the main menu and then wipe the data by choosing wipe data/factory reset, then you can go ahead and wipe the cache and delvik cache.
Head to the SD card and you find the ROM that you installed onto the SD card and you can then install it. You should then repeat the process to install GApps and then reboot. When you have rebooted you will have Android Nougat on your Nexus 5X.
