Owners of the Google Nexus 5X got a surprise when developers offered the unofficial version of Android 7.1 Nougat for the handset. CyanogenMod offered the ROM for the handset to bring owners the latest version.
The CM14.1 ROM for the Nexus 5X was made available to download and install but bear in mind that as this is a nightly build some things may not work as expected on the handset.
If you do want to install Android 7.1 Nougat onto the Nexus 5X you will have to ensure the device is rooted and enable USB debugging. CWM or TWRP also needs to be installed.
First you should download the CM14.1 ROM onto your compute and Google Apps and then connect the device to the computer and transfer the ROM to the SD card of the handset. Head into recovery by holding volume up, down and power together and when you release them you will see Bootloader or Fastloader. You can choose using the volume keys and navigate with the power button.
First make a Nandroid backup and in the main menu choose wipe data/factory reset. Then go back and choose wipe cache, wipe delvik cache.
Head to the SD card where you downloaded the ROM and install It. When you have completed the install you can do the same to install GApps. When you reboot your handset you will have Android Nougat 7.1 running on your Nexus 5X.
