New Acer Iconia Tab A700 Wants To Be Next iPad Killer

By  |

We never thought a new Android tablet thus far has the potential to take on the New iPad ‘3’, but the Iconia Tab A700 by Acer has the potential to do so. The new tablet has features such as 1920×1200 res display (50% higher than any previous Android tablet), black or silver aesthetic, and 32GB storage – all at a 25 percent lower price than an equivalent New iPad at approximately $450.

Acer Iconia Tab A700 want to take on reigning New iPad ‘3’ this summer

Presale for Acer’s new Android tablet starts today, for shipping towards the end of June. This announcement came at CES 2012, where Asus also introduced a Full HD tablet with the same resolution. These are the first Android tablets to come close to the third generation iPad which has a 2048×1536 pixel resolution.

The Acer has some pretty impressive visuals now, and is also good for sharing with its 16:10 aspect ratio display with a 178 degree viewing angle. The device also offers better responsiveness than past Android tablets, with the 10 point touch-capacitive screen. With 32GB of built in storage (double the basic iPad) despite the cheaper rate, Acer also impresses on this front. Not only that, but the tablet has a slot for MicroSD cards so that an additional 64GB storage can be added to the device. It would be useful if the device also had a normal SD slot like Acer’s past tabletsa, as it provides a little more interoperability between camera and tablet. Still – you can’t really complain about 64GB worth of extra storage, which really works together with the high-res which will no doubt encourage you to store a lot more media on the device.

Other specs that the Iconia Tab A700 has includes 1GB RAM, a Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor, Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0), a micro-HDMI port for cooperation with your television, and a micro-USB port for charging and transferring data. The A700 also has GPS and e-compass, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, 802.11 b/g/n wireless, better audio capture along with Dolby Mobile 3, a 5MP rear facing camera (though lacking a flash), and a 1MP front facing camera. Battery life is also a big deal for users, and the A700 battery is 9800mAh which should, Acer say, provide video playback of approximately 10.5 hours.
